New Jersey Food Council accepting applications for 2024 scholarships

The New Jersey Food Council is now accepting scholarships for its 2024 program. This year, NJFC will be offering 32 scholarships totaling $108,000.

“A goal of the New Jersey Food Council is to provide scholarships to students, employees and families of NJFC member companies and staff. This initiative not only serves as a testament to our commitment to supporting education, but also signifies an investment in the future of the food industry and the well-being of NJFC families. We are excited to announce the addition of two more scholarships this year, further reinforcing our dedication to fostering educational opportunities,” Linda Doherty, CEO and president of NJFC, said.

For 2024, the NJFC has announced the creation of a new $5,000 President’s Scholarship to be awarded each year, and the Ronald S. and Kathleen Murphy Scholarship in the amount of $2,500 established by Murphy’s Fresh Markets.

Each scholarship has different requirements. NJFC members and their families can now apply for the scholarships here. All applications are due no later than April 19.

This year’s scholarships are as follows:

  • NJFC President’s Scholarship: $5,000;
  • NJFC Founders Scholarship: $5,000;
  • NJFC Student Scholarship: $5,000;
  • NJFC Thomas Infusino Scholarship: $5,000;
  • NJFC Scholarships (4 scholarships): $2,500 each;
  • Acme & Kings Scholarship (Acme Markets/Kings Food Markets employees and family members; 3 scholarships): $2,500 each;
  • Cuellar Family ShopRites Scholarship (Cuellar employees and family members): $2,500;
  • Abe Glass Memorial Scholarship (team member employed at Glass Gardens): $5,000;
  • Ben Glass Memorial Scholarship (team member employed at Glass Gardens): $5,000;
  • Glass Gardens ShopRite (team member employed at Glass Gardens; 4 scholarships): $2,500 each;
  • Lawrence R. Inserra Memorial Scholarships (Inserra Supermarkets employees and family members): 1 scholarship at $5,000 and 2 scholarships at $2,500;
  • Raymond J. Maniaci Scholarship Program (St. Joseph’s University students majoring in food marketing): $8,000;
  • Ronald S. and Kathleen Murphy Scholarship (Murphy’s Fresh Markets employees and family members or high school seniors at Cheroke, Lenape, Seneca or Shawnee High Schools or students from Burlington County Institute of Technology): $2,500;
  • Robert Powell Memorial Scholarship (Allegiance employees and family members): $5,000;
  • QuickChek Corp. Scholarship (QuickChek Corp. employees and family members): $2,500;
  • Grace Scaduto Memorial Scholarship (Food Circus Supermarkets employees and family members): $5,000;
  • Wawa Education Scholarships (Wawa employees and family members; 2 scholarships): $2,500 each;
  • Whole Foods Market Scholarships (Whole Foods Market team members; 4 scholarships): $2,500 each.

Selection committees evaluate applications based on applicant’s grades, written essay, letter of recommendation and financial need. Since its inception 14 years ago, 209 students received scholarships totaling $644,600 and, this year, that number will increase to 241 students for a total of $752,500.
