Law firm Vaughan Baio & Partners of Philadelphia recently welcomed new partners in New Jersey, opening an office in Cherry Hill to expand its New Jersey presence.
Justin Callow has joined the firm’s Newark office, expanding the team in northern and central New Jersey; and George Matteo Jr. will establish the firm’s new Cherry Hill office.
Callow, who joins from Malamut Law, brings a unique understanding of the thought processes and goals of both his clients and adversaries, having represented clients on both sides of the workers’ compensation equation. He has litigated a variety of workers’ compensation motions related to issues of causation, liability and fraud. Callow currently represents employers, self-insureds and insurance carriers.
Matteo Jr., who joins from Connell Foley, has more than 30 years of experience in commercial transactions, real estate, land use, zoning, corporate law and finance in New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania. In addition to his private land development practice, he has also served as solicitor to numerous planning and zoning boards throughout New Jersey. He was the founder of a publicly traded community-based commercial bank in New Jersey, and spent five years as its CEO. That experience strengthened his representation of borrowers and lenders, in traditional debt financing, securitized financing and tax-free bond financing involving banks, insurance companies, private equity and finance companies. Matteo Jr. has built a track record over many years, representing parties in both buy and sell transactions, land development, redevelopment and highly specialized land use litigation. He has handled numerous affordable housing cases throughout the state, residential development, commercial and retail development, rezoning, power generation facilities, Brownfields development and Pinelands development and regulation.
