Markoe named chief people officer at RWJBarnabas Health

Lynda Markoe, a highly regarded human resources professional who has worked at a number of major companies, has been named chief people officer at RWJBarnabas Health, effective immediately.

In her new role, Markoe will be responsible for leading the system’s HR function and spearheading the implementation of the department’s transformation initiative, “One HR.”

Markoe, who will report to CEO Mark Manigan, will be an integral member of the executive team working with leadership to refine and leverage the health system’s people processes in line with the new organizational model and growing enterprise. She will be instrumental in advancing a culture of kindness and accountability as reflected in RWJBarnabas Health’s mission.

Markoe joins the system with significant expertise in talent management and development, possesses substantial global experience and is adept at guiding the HR capabilities across multiple locations and changing business lifecycles.

“Lynda is a highly regarded human resources professional with more than 30 years of experience in the retail and consumer goods sectors,” Manigan said. “She has a proven track record of success, most recently as the chief people and culture officer of Bed Bath & Beyond, where she led the human resources during a time of rapid change and transformation. I am confident Lynda’s deep experience in retail and customer experience will serve us well.”

Prior to joining Bed Bath & Beyond in 2020, Markoe held HR roles of increasing responsibility at national apparel leaders such as J. Crew and Gap Inc.

She graduated from Binghamton University with a Bachelor of Arts in political science with a concentration in international relations. She serves on the boards of several educational organizations.
