Pershing Estates brings 78 units and medical space to Carteret

4 borough-owned properties will be demolished to make way for mixed-use project

The borough of Carteret will soon be home to another mixed-use building with luxury apartments, as well as 1,595 square feet of medical space, Mayor Daniel Reiman announced recently.

Plans for Pershing Estates Urban Renewal were approved and, through demolition, four existing dwellings at 235 to 243 Pershing Ave. will be consolidated to transform the lots into one. A new five-story building will be constructed that consists of ground-floor retail and 35 one-bedroom and 43 two-bedroom units.

“The rooftop amenities and views of Pershing Estates are going to be gorgeous, much like the Botanic before it,” Reiman said. “Carteret is booming with progress, rebuilding block by block. Here is another fine example.”

Located at 237 Pershing Ave., Pershing Estates is situated across the street from Borough Hall and the Community Center and next to Noe Street Park. Plans call for a rooftop terrace with potted plants, tables, chairs and fire pits. Indoor amenities also will be available, as well as a parking garage. Ninety-five spots will be constructed between the parking lot and garage.

From the apartment building’s parking lot, traffic will be restricted to make a right only onto Blanchard Street, where on-street parking will be available.

Due to an expected increase in pedestrian traffic, Pershing Estates Urban Renewal is required to install raised crosswalks and stop signs at two locations on Pershing Avenue. A handicapped-accessible ramp also must be installed at the corner of Pershing and Blachard Street, according to public documents.
