Fairleigh Dickinson University on Tuesday said Colleen Coppla has been named as the new senior vice president for university advancement, effective April 9.

Coppla brings over two decades of experience in nonprofit management and fundraising to her new position. An FDU alumna, she formerly served FDU as associate vice president for university advancement. Most recently, Coppla served as the chief development officer for the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, where she successfully oversaw all development operations, including principal gifts, major gifts, corporate and foundation relations, annual giving, planned giving and special events.

“I am excited to return to Fairleigh Dickinson University and contribute to its continued momentum and success under President (Michael) Avaltroni,” Coppla said. “FDU has a special place in the higher education landscape, and it has helped transform the lives of countless individuals, including myself. I look forward to engaging alumni and friends of the university and inspiring support for its future growth and development.”

Coppla’s extensive experience in higher education includes serving as the vice president for development at Montclair State University, where she led the successful completion of a comprehensive campaign exceeding its $82 million goal. She also oversaw the Montclair State University Foundation and its $100 million endowment, collaborating closely with the foundation board on fundraising and investment oversight.

Having spent over a decade at FDU in various roles, Coppla brings a deep understanding of the university’s culture and priorities.

“We are thrilled to welcome Colleen back to her alma mater and to support her leadership in university advancement,” Avaltroni said. “Her exceptional knowledge and experience in development in nonprofit and higher education institutions, as well as her familiarity with FDU and the New Jersey landscape will be pivotal in securing philanthropic support for FDU and ensuring our continued growth and success.”
