Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey took steps in promoting a happy and healthier community by hosting a Healthy Living Fair for the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Camden earlier this month.
The event featured 173 community members participating in a day of health information sessions, giveaways, crafts, health screenings, interactive exhibits, family fitness classes, live animals and more through the help of 17 community partners.
Camden residents also received free flu and COVID vaccinations, along with many other resources, including glucose and blood pressure testing.
Horizon officials feel the Healthy Living Fair is among multiple examples of the company’s commitment to expand access to health care, remove barriers to good health and increase opportunities for everyone to achieve their best health, regardless of background or residency.
The Healthy Living Fair is part of a $35,000 grant from the Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, where participants in the Camden Kroc Center’s after-school and summer camp programs are introduced to family and youth obesity education and prevention with physical fitness, healthy meals and nutrition education, and sessions on social emotional health.
Jonathan Person, the executive director of the Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, said he’s proud of the group’s continuing effort in promoting a healthy lifestyle in their communities.
“Horizon is pleased to continue our support of the Salvation Army’s important work in Camden,’ he said. “By helping Camden city residents understand the benefits of healthy eating and staying active, the Salvation Army’s programs will help more families create lifelong healthy habits and help them gain access to resources and services to achieve their best health.”
