American Water was recently named as the 2024 Public Company Board of the Year by the National Association of Corporate Directors New Jersey Chapter. NACD annually recognizes public, private and nonprofit companies and their boards, which have made valuable contributions and advanced exemplary board leadership.

“We’re thrilled to honor American Water as this year’s Public Company Board of the Year and celebrate its exemplary board leadership,” Trish Oelrich, chair, NACD New Jersey Chapter, said. “We look forward to honoring directors and leading organizations, including American Water, that continue to make a lasting, positive difference in the state of New Jersey, the business community and in the lives of those they serve.”

NACD is the leading membership organization for board directors who want to expand their knowledge, grow their network and maximize their potential. Through its research and community-driven director education, programming and publications, NACD sets the standard of excellence.

“We are so pleased to receive this recognition from NACD,” Karl Kurz, board chair, American Water, said. “We believe this honor reflects our commitment to good governance and transparency on key metrics that matter to our investors.”

Susan Hardwick, CEO and president, American Water, added: “This recognition is the result of a joint commitment between the board and American Water to make a positive impact in the communities we serve. Our 6,500 employees are inspired by our purpose to deliver clean, safe, reliable and affordable water and wastewater services across the U.S. This award is a testament to that commitment.”

The New Jersey Chapter of the NACD is one of more than 20 chapters and the premier organization for sharing experiential knowledge, understanding tomorrow’s boardroom challenges and the opportunity to enhance responsible boardroom leadership further.
