American Water foundation awards total of $1M to 59 orgs

The American Water Charitable Foundation, Camden-based American Water’s philanthropic nonprofit, announced Tuesday that it has awarded a combined $1 million to 59 organizations in 11 states through its 2024 Water and Environment Grant Program.

Grant recipients can be found across the water and wastewater utility’s service footprint, from New Jersey through California, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

The Water and Environment Grant is part of the Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, which focuses on three pillars of giving: water, people and communities. The $1 million in grants will support projects and initiatives that further environment, social & governance, as well as diversity, equity & inclusion.

“The American Water Charitable Foundation is pleased to partner with eligible organizations to provide equitable and accessible projects and programs focused on clean water, conservation, environmental education and water-based recreation across American Water’s footprint,” Carrie Williams, president of the foundation, said in a prepared statement. “The Water and Environment Grant Program allows us to continue focusing on our core passion of water, while engaging community members in learning how every drop counts.”
