Saker ShopRite to host ribbon-cutting to celebrate newest store in South Plainfield

South Plainfield will soon have new 93,000-square-foot ShopRite to buy fresh groceries and quality products from. Located at 6781 Hadley Road in Hadley Commons Plaza, the Saker family, which owns and operates the new store, will celebrate with the community with a ribbon-cutting and day of celebration starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday.

“Opening a new store is always a big moment for us, because it represents our commitment to provide fresh, quality products and exceptional service in a state-of-the-art store,” Rick Saker, senior vice president of Saker ShopRites, said. “We’re excited to welcome our customers to this new location and are kicking it off with a great celebration that will include special store happenings throughout the month of May.”

The new ShopRite will offer a wide selection of groceries, including locally sourced foods and fresh produce, as well as popular national brands and ShopRite’s award-winning Bowl & Basket, Wholesome Pantry and Paperbird private label lines.

The store will also feature an expanded line of international foods and dishes, including Southeast Asian specialties, and Kosher and Halal products. In addition, the store will offer a Saker ShopRites World Class bakery with special occasion cakes and freshly made bread, an extensive meat department with trained butchers, a seafood department with daily, fresh catch deliveries, a floral shop, a full-service deli department and prepared foods department featuring Saker ShopRites’ own World Class Kitchens and specialty Dearborn Farms brands, a pharmacy and more.

ShopRite’s online shopping service, Order.Pickup.Deliver., also will be available at the new location.

Festivities are planned throughout Wednesday, with food trucks and in-store sampling stations at the state-of-the-art supermarket. The first 200 customers on line for the store opening also will receive special grocery gift bags filled with product samples and coupons.

Community leaders will join the Saker family, and their retail teams for the 7 a.m. ribbon-cutting. Later that morning, at 10:30, the family will present the Community FoodBank of New Jersey with a donation, and food trucks and vendors Tru Fru Food, Deep Foods and Mrs. T’s Pierogies will arrive in the parking lot to offer free samples to shoppers. Deep Foods and Mrs. T’s Pierogies will be grilling treats on site and offering customers a chance to enter a raffle for a new Weber grill. The ShopRite of Hadley Commons also is offering people the chance to win a $100 ShopRite gift card. For more information on the contest, visit the store’s Facebook page.

ShopRite of Hadley Commons is owned by Saker ShopRites, a family-owned company made up of third- and fourth-generation grocers with stores in Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Somerset and Mercer counties.

The new store will replace the existing ShopRite of Piscataway, at 1306 Centennial Ave., which will close at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
