Westfield-based REDCOM Design & Construction recently announced it is working on renovating the United Way of Greater Union County’s new headquarters at 219 Central Ave. in Rahway. The renovation began in March and is expected to be completed this summer.
The city of Rahway provided the building to United Way with a long-term lease of $1 per month, with the provision that United Way renovate the building to make it fit for occupancy. United Way selected REDCOM as construction manager and general contractor to oversee the project that includes a full interior renovation and fit-out and a roof replacement. The building, once occupied by Elizabethtown Gas, requires all new mechanical systems, wiring and plumbing, a fire alarm system and removal of the basement ceiling and framing.
Julienne Cherry, CEO and president of the United Way of Greater Union County, commented: “This project has been in the works for several years, and I am grateful that REDCOM helped it become a reality. UWGUC is forever thankful to Mayor (Raymond) Giacobbe for welcoming us to the city of Rahway, where we will expand our family success center and continue our mission of building stronger, healthier and more compassionate communities.”
REDCOM, which has operated in Union County for over 40 years, is managing the renovation at below cost.
REDCOM CEO Ryan Teicher said: “As a company deeply rooted in community support, we are honored to offer our construction services to United Way of Greater Union County at a discounted rate. It is our privilege to contribute to initiatives that positively impact our local communities.”
