As head of the state’s biggest and most important university, Holloway’s impact is as far-reaching as anyone — and critiqued far more than anyone. There have been numerous major challenges during his tenure: The response to COVID, a teachers strike and antisemitism on campus perhaps top the list. His efforts in these areas and others (including the handling of the Rutgers-Newark chancellorship) have left both his critics and his supporters wanting more.
