A look at some New Jersey companies that are helping military families:
South Jersey Industries: Employees collected and donated more than 3,000 pounds of nonperishable food items to active-duty military, veterans and their families at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
The collection was managed by SJI’s Veterans Engagement Team, an employee group that supports the personal growth and professional development of former service personnel in the South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas service territories.
In observance of Memorial Day, South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas, subsidiaries of SJI, have planned a series of events to honor our veterans and fallen servicemen and women.
“SJI is proud to partner with the Red Cross Service to feed the military and veterans through our food drive,” said Adam McLaughlin, senior director, regional operations, SJI. “These brave men and women have served and sacrificed for our country, so it is rewarding to see the community come together for them in support of a great cause.”
M&T Bank: It has launched a statewide, monthlong food drive to support the Food Warriors program of the Military Support Alliance of New Jersey. M&T will collect monetary donations and nonperishable foods through June 28. The drive is to support families at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst dealing with food insecurity issues. Verizon: The company hosts a regular series of webinars about its current job opportunities for veterans. In June, the webinars will be held from 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, June 19 and June 26. To register for one of the webinars, click here.
The company also offers to eligible military families savings of up to $25 per month on myPlan with two or three lines, just by confirming ties to those industries through the IDme verification tool, then finishing the discount registration on Verizon’s website. This promotion is year-round.
New Jersey Bankers Association and Manasquan Bank: They will host “Brews & Budgets” — a financial literacy workshop for military veterans — from 6-7:30 p.m. June 12 at the Backward Flag Brewing Co., 699 Challenger Way, Forked River. Open to all New Jersey veterans. To RSVP, email info@njbankers.com.
Somerset Patriots: The Double-A minor league affiliate of the New York Yankees hosted its 21st annual Veterans of America Day on May 19. Joint Base MDL Commander Col. Anthony Smith threw out the first pitch and addressed the Sunday crowd about the importance of remembering our veterans. The Patriots capped off the day with a 7-0 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs.
