Run or walk (in person or virtually) to raise funds for Community Hope’s service programs for veterans

Community Hope hosts its 23rd annual Flag Day 5K and 1-Mile Walk fundraiser at 7 p.m. June 13.

Those wishing to participate can register to run or walk in-person or virtually. Those who register to participate virtually will receive an email with instructions describing how to participate, when to complete their run/walk and how to record their time.

“The Flag Day 5K is one of Community Hope’s long-running fundraisers, with all proceeds directly benefiting the Hope for Veterans Program,” said Jenn Stivers, Community Hope managing director. “Located on the grounds of the VA New Jersey Healthcare System in Lyons, the event allows veterans living in our transitional housing program to either participate or cheer on the runners as they work their way through the course.”

Community Hope provides services to veterans and their families, including transitional housing, permanent supportive housing, rapid rehousing, mental health counseling, transportation and workforce development.

The Flag Day 5K is one of the organization’s key fundraisers for the year. Since its inception, the race has raised $750,000 and has attracted thousands of runners, with many more participating virtually.

Community Hope’s fundraisers are made possible by the organization’s deep roots in the region and generous corporate sponsors.

“Oticon is proud to be a sponsor of Community Hope’s Flag Day 5K,” said Mike Marcinek, vice president and general manager, government services and pediatrics, Oticon Inc. “Each year, our employees and their families look forward to participating in this important event. Every dollar invested in our veterans’ well-being helps build a stronger and more resilient community. We are grateful to have Community Hope as a partner, along with the opportunity to give back to those who have served our country.”

Sponsorship opportunities for the event are available.
