Imagine offering training for those looking to become Grief Specialists

Imagine: A Center for Coping with Loss, in Mountainside, said that, in response to the high level of interest in its training courses as well as the high level of interest it has experienced since the passage of the Grief Bill, NJ-S30, it is offering a new three-day training session for Grief Specialists.

Imagine Training and Education Director Veronica Ortiz has had a full and successful year conducting many training courses in schools, organizations and workplaces.

The complete training includes four courses:

  • 101: Understanding Loss, Grief and Mourning;
  • 201: Diving into Grief through an Intersectional Lens;
  • 301: Skill Building, Planning and Application; and
  • Imagine’s Loss and Grief Specialist Training.

Imagine plans to offer all four courses from July 31 to Aug. 2 to interested community members.

Social workers attending the training receive 6 continuing education credits for the first day of training, which includes 101, 201 and 301. The next two days of training provide an opportunity for attendees to become Loss and Grief Specialists.

Imagine’s Loss and Grief Specialist Training is experiential and creates space to reflect on personal and professional losses. The training is designed to run like a grief peer support group, with a chance for participants to share their own stories of loss and gain familiarity and practice with the companioning skills used in Imagine’s support groups. The training will provide participants with tools and knowledge to help those who are grieving in a personal and/or professional setting.
