Bergen New Bridge Medical Center celebrated Juneteenth with a flag-raising ceremony where speakers shared the importance of the observance for all Americans.
“Today’s ceremony is more than symbolic, it is representational of our medical center’s commitment to diversity, equity & inclusion as we gather to remember and celebrate the historic and significant holiday of Juneteenth,” CEO and President Deborah Visconi said. “Today is a day of celebration of freedom, but it is also a moment for all of us to acknowledge the past, recommit to building a safer, stronger and more equitable tomorrow for all Black Americans and communities of color.”
“This commemoration of freedom is important not only for our country, but is important for those of us in health care as a reminder of the importance of health equity and delivering high-quality care to all those we serve,” Shari Gold, senior vice president for regulatory compliance & chief quality and equity officer, said. “Until everyone can easily access the necessary services to achieve optimal health and wellness, we must continue to address injustices and eliminate barriers to health care.”
“As we proudly raise the Juneteenth flag today, let’s reflect on the importance of equity and justice in health care. Let’s renew our unwavering commitment to these principles, which are at the core of our work at the Ambulatory Care Center,” Otito Okoye, Ambulatory Care Practice manager, said.
