Gaming revenue achieves its highest June result in over a decade

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement released the June 2024 Gaming Revenue Results on Tuesday, and total gaming revenue achieved its highest June result in over a decade. In addition, monthly casino win and slot machine win grew slightly, providing the best results for the month of June since 2012.

“Visitation has been on the rise, thanks in part to diverse and plentiful in-person entertainment opportunities being offered in Atlantic City and across the region,” James Plousis, chairman of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, said.

Based upon filings with the Division of Gaming Enforcement, casino win for the nine casino hotel properties was $244.1 million for June, reflecting an increase of 1% when compared with $241.6 million reported in June 2023. Year-to-date casino win was $1.36 billion, which is essentially flat compared with the year-to-date casino win for June 2023.

Internet gaming win for the month of June was $186.8 million, reflecting growth of 25.2% when compared with $149.3 million reported in June 2023. For the year-to-date period, internet gaming win reported by casinos and their partners was $1.13 billion, reflecting growth of 21.4% when compared with $930.8 million for the prior year-to-date period.

However, sports wagering gross revenue reported by casinos, racetracks and their partners was $573.1 million for the year-to-date period, reflecting a 30% increase when compared to $440.8 million reported in the prior year-to-date period.

“Total gross gaming revenue for the month increased 7.4% year-over-year and, by this metric, was the strongest June in recent history for Atlantic City’s casino operators. Likewise, at the halfway point of the year, total GGR increased 9.1% over 2023 and has generated the most revenue year-to-date in recent history — more revenue than the industry made in some recent 12-month periods,” Jane Bokunewicz, faculty director of the Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gaming, Hospitality and Tourism at Stockton University School of Business, said.
