Norcross details growth plan for Cooper in Cape May, Atlantic counties

Cooper University Health Care Chairman George Norcross offered his long-term vision for the Camden-based health system — something that has been expected since the system acquired Cape Regional Health 18 months ago.

The goals are extensive, including an expansion of a number of specialty care ambulatory offices throughout Cape May and Atlantic counties — as well as the likely development of large, multispecialty campus in the Shore region, similar to the recently opened Moorestown Campus.

“When we announced that Cape Regional would join Cooper University Health Care just over 18 months ago, we were clear that our goal was to enable everyone who lives or visits the Shore to have ready access to the high-quality care they’d receive anywhere in the country,” Norcross said.

“We have already begun expanded services at the new Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional and, as part of our long-term commitment, we envision major investments in coming years in Cape May and Atlantic counties.

“We want to ensure that high-quality care and convenience are not mutually exclusive as they have been in too many South Jersey communities.”

The announcement, made recently on Harry Hurley’s show on WPG Talk Radio 95.5 FM/1450 AM, comes just days after U.S. News & World Report ranked Cooper University Hospital in Camden as one of the nation’s top regional hospitals and the highest-ranking hospital in South Jersey.

Cape Regional officially joined Cooper on July 1. Some of the upgrades already are taking place, as Cooper already has moved to set up clinics to have some of Cooper’s top specialists visiting Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional on a regular basis to see patients, including cardiology, orthopaedics, surgical and MD Anderson at Cooper cancer physicians.

Cooper is southern New Jersey’s leading academic health system and only Level I trauma center, with nearly $2.5 billion in revenue. Cooper is also investing nearly $3 billion expanding its Health Sciences Campus in Camden.
