Little-known Breeze Airways adds second destination from Newark

Airline, which started in 2021 and already goes from Newark to Orlando, adds twice-weekly service to Charleston, West Virginia

There’s long been a belief at ROI-NJ that any story about any new route from any New Jersey airport will be widely read.

We’re going to put that to the test.

This week, Breeze Airways (we hadn’t heard of it either) announced that it will be making twice-weekly round-trip flights from Newark Liberty to West Virginia International Yeager Airport (we hadn’t heard of it, either) near Charleston.

The flights, which will begin Nov. 14, will be on Thursdays and Sundays.

Breeze Airways already has limited service between Newark and Orlando, Florida.

Breeze Airways, which began service in May 2021, bills itself as a “nice” airline – one that aims to provide efficient and affordable flights between secondary airports, bypassing hubs for shorter travel times.

It must be doing it right. The airline has been ranked as one of the U.S.’ best domestic airlines for the last two years by Travel + Leisure magazine’s World’s Best Awards (#2 in 2022 and #4 in 2023).

Yeager Airport, in unincorporated Kanawha County (birthplace of Jennifer Garner), is about an hour from Huntington (West Virginia) in the Southwestern part of the state. It is approximately three hours from Lexington (Kentucky), Columbus (Ohio) and Pittsburgh.

Yeager Airport Director and CEO Dominique Ranieri said she was thrilled to make the announcement.

“The New York City area is among the top destinations requested by our community,” she said. “Now our travelers have even more reason to choose West Virginia International Yeager Airport.”
