Wellpoint invests $150K in Trenton’s revitalization with donation to Isles’ downtown project

Wellpoint New Jersey Inc. has made a $150,000 tax credit donation to Isles Inc. for a redevelopment initiative in downtown Trenton.

Formerly known as Amerigroup New Jersey, the Iselin-based firm that offers health care services to consumers said the investment will help advance whole-community wellness by supporting the development of safe, affordable and accessible housing. It also will contribute to nurturing recreation and entertainment opportunities that will help transform Trenton into a thriving social and cultural center.

“Through strategic investment in the Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit Program and collaboration with Isles, Wellpoint stands by Trenton, committed to bettering the lives of its residents,” Patrick Fox, president of Wellpoint New Jersey, said. “We are fully invested in cultivating stronger communities by addressing critical needs, such as housing, social services and employment training. Our alignment of vision and resources makes us confident that we will achieve meaningful changes and improvements to enhance the lives of New Jersey residents.”

Isles focuses on addressing emerging needs, such as housing, vacant lot development, home improvements, local business support, neighborhood cleanup and arts programs.

“Isles is a community-driven organization that has been at the forefront of Trenton’s revitalization efforts, largely through backing by the NRTC,” Sean Jackson, CEO of Isles, said. “Wellpoint’s generous contribution accelerates our work and demonstrates a shared mission of enhancing community wellbeing, so we sincerely thank them for their steadfast commitment as we work together toward building a better future for Trenton.”

Administered by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Division of Housing and Community Resources, the NRTC program connects corporations with neighborhood enhancement initiatives.

Wellpoint New Jersey has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to neighborhood enrichment, evidenced by a significant $450,000 donation made last year to the Jewish Renaissance Foundation in Perth Amboy to support the Perth Amboy Alliance for Community Neighborhood plan.
