Inserra Supermarkets, founded in 1954 by Patsy Inserra, always has remained true to its mission of lending a helping hand to those in need.
Over the years, the company and its foundation have provided volunteer and financial support to fund research for the cure for many chronic illnesses, including leukemia, pediatric cancer, diabetes and multiple sclerosis.
The spirit of giving was on display earlier this week when Inserra Supermarkets presented the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation with a check for $109,356 at the ShopRite in Jersey City.
The gift was part of the company’s “Dollars Against Diabetes” fundraiser it had in June at all 23 ShopRite stores in Bergen, Hudson and Passaic counties and Rockland County, New York, and PriceRite Marketplaces in Garfield and Paterson.
That effort raised $54,678. That total was then matched by the Inserra Family Foundation.
The money raised directly supports innovative research for the cure at the Diabetes Research Institute.
The Shop Rite in Jersey City also was honored for being the top store in the campaign, raising $10,470.
