The Glaucoma Center of Excellence in Ridgewood has opened, according to an announcement from Valley Health System.
Located at 1200 E. Ridgewood Ave., the Valley Medical Group‘s ophthalmology center will be led by Dr. Tanya Fooks, an ophthalmologist who has over 14 years of training and experience in diagnosing and treating patients with glaucoma, a disease that damages the eye’s optic nerve, which may result in vision loss or blindness. If detected early, treatments can occur to mitigate damage to vision.
“We offer multidisciplinary care that combines treatment with highly personalized service from our staff, including a patient navigator who will coordinate each patient’s care and answer all questions before, during and after appointments,” Fooks said. “With our seamless coordination of care, we can make scheduling and receiving care simpler and easier for patients, while reducing the timeline in bringing sight-saving advances to patients.”
Early diagnosis is key to managing the condition.
For patients with advanced glaucoma, the center specializes in traditional and minimally invasive procedures.
Conditions treated include:
- Glaucoma suspect
- POAG, primary open-angle glaucoma
- Secondary glaucoma occurring as a complication of eye surgeries, injuries, infections or other ophthalmic conditions
- Low-tension glaucoma
- Anatomic narrow-angle glaucoma
- Closed-angle glaucoma
- Steroid-induced glaucoma
- Ocular hypertensive disorder
- Pseudo-exfoliative glaucoma
