Family values: Metropolitan Window Fashions says 90th anniversary is result of corporate culture

Green Brook-based company’s CEO says leadership is more than just carrying on legacy — it’s honoring values, hard work and dedication of company’s founder

Anyone who has ever opened up a family business knows that making it to a second generation of ownership is the toughest task.

Metropolitan Window Fashions in Green Brook has done all that and then some.

The third-generation family-owned business, renowned for its exceptional window décor services, is celebrating its 90th anniversary in business.

Founded by Philip Heyman in 1934, this historic company has thrived through three generations of leadership, remaining a cornerstone of the New Jersey community. The company’s Highway Fabricland was an integral part of its community, and the company also notably owned another known name, Nassau’s Window Fashions in Bergen County.

Phillip Heyman in 1968 with his grandson, Bruce, who is now running the company.

After taking over the business, Bruce Heyman rebranded the company as Metropolitan Window Fashions. As the company celebrates 90 years, it remains committed to serving its communities with the same passion and dedication that have defined its history.

“Celebrating 90 years is more than just a milestone — it’s a testament to our rich history, the loyalty of our customers and the hard work of our incredible team,” he said. “As we reflect on our past, we are filled with pride, and, as we look to the future, we are excited to continue our tradition of excellence for many more years to come.”

As for handing down ownership through generations, Heyman said it’s a matter of maintaining excellence and commitment.

“Taking the reins of our family business is more than just carrying on a legacy, but honoring the values, hard work and dedication that my grandfather instilled when he started this company 90 years ago,” he said. “The fact that this company has been passed down through generations is a testament to our products and service, and to the values and dedication that have guided us for nearly a century.

“To see Metropolitan Window Fashions thrive across three generations is deeply meaningful to me. It’s about more than just business; it’s about family, tradition and the trust our customers place in us.”

Of course, Heyman will be the first to say that the customers are the key to success.

To mark this milestone anniversary, Metropolitan Window Fashions is hosting a special giveaway in which one lucky winner will receive a $9,000 Hunter Douglas Gift Certificate.

“The measure of our success is customer satisfaction,” Heyman said. “To achieve that, we are always going to do the right thing — by our customers, by our associates and by the community.”
