4 gubernatorial candidates to speak on panel at Veteran Business Summit

Baraka, Bramnick, Ciattarelli and Fulop will be asked about plans to help veteran business owners

Four announced candidates for governor — Ras Baraka, Jon Bramnick, Jack Ciattarelli and Steve Fulop — will participate in a panel discussion at the third annual Veteran Business Summit, to be held Sept. 12 at Mercer County Community College.

They will be part of the all-day event, sponsored and organized by the New Jersey State Veterans Chamber of Commerce.

And they will not get off easily.

The participants will be questioned on their specific plans to help the veteran business community, including how they will be more inclusive of veteran businesses for procurement — and how they will help meet (if not exceed) the 3% set-aside for service-disabled veteran-owned businesses.

(You can register and get your tickets for the event here.)

The panel is just one of the items on the all-day agenda. The general information session will include information on:

  • Federal procurement
  • County contracting opportunities
  • Private-sector business opportunities

Attendees also will hear from veteran business owners who have been awarded multimillion-dollar contracts and how they were able to break through, see data on the state’s latest spending — and new opportunities that may be coming.

In addition, there will be breakout sessions aimed at helping veterans learn about new and upcoming opportunities for entrepreneurship, including:

  • How to really do federal contracting
  • Certifications
  • Marketing your business
  • Legal considerations of business ownership
  • Entrepreneurship training programs
  • Successful Request for Proposal responses
  • Taking care of yourself holistically
  • Opportunities with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority
  • Opportunities in the cannabis industry
