Monmouth Medical Center names new chief nursing officer

Monmouth Medical Center recently announced the appointment of Ann Szapor, who has nine years’ experience as a chief nursing officer and vice president of nursing with Magnet-designated facilities, to its top nursing leadership role.

As CNO, Szapor is responsible for the operational clinical practice, education and research delivered through nursing clinical services at MMC.

Szapor joins MMC from Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in Houston, the largest not-for-profit health system in southeast Texas, where she served as chief nursing officer since 2017. Prior to that, she served as CNO for Ocala Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Florida.
From 2009 to 2014, she served as assistant vice president for AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, where she also served as executive director, women’s/children’s health services. Szapor began her nurse leadership career as assistant head nurse and staff development instructor at MMC’s sister RWJBarnabas Health hospital, Community Medical Center in Toms River.

“Ann is an accomplished executive with an extensive background and progressive experience in complex multicampus health care systems,” Eric Carney, CEO and president of MMC and Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, said. “She also has a proven track record of leading her organizations to multiple successful Magnet designations and redesignations.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Ann as Monmouth Medical Center’s new chief nursing officer. With an exceptional track record in nursing leadership and a deep commitment to patient care, she brings invaluable expertise to our team,” Nancy Holecek, executive vice president and chief nursing officer, RWJBarnabas Health, said. “We would also like to thank RWJBarnabas Health nursing leadership, the board of trustees, physician leaders, executives, management team and staff members who played a role in bringing Ann aboard to fill this important position.”

On Aug. 12, MMC learned it had been redesignated as a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, becoming the first hospital in New Jersey and 11th in the nation to earn Magnet Recognition with Distinction.
