Lowenstein Sandler adds 2 as partners; continues firm’s expansion across practice areas

Former federal prosecutor Jason Gould and former fund GC/CCO Courtney Posner join

Lowenstein Sandler announced that two new partners will be joining the firm: Jason Gould, former assistant U.S. attorney, has joined the firm as partner in the firm’s White Collar Defense and Litigation practices; and Courtney Posner, former general counsel and chief compliance officer at Echo Street Capital Management, has joined the firm as partner in its Investment Management Group. Gould will be based in the firm’s Roseland office, and Posner will be based in the firm’s New York City office.

“The addition of Jason, with his years of experience in the federal government, and Courtney, who builds upon our highly skilled group of investment management partners with deep experience in the day-to-day operations of private funds, illustrates Lowenstein’s strategic and continued expansion across its key practice areas,” Gary Wingens, the firm’s chair and managing partner, said.

Wingens said the two new additions to the firm not only enhance the respective strengths of its Litigation and IM groups, they are indicative of the dynamic wave of talent that has been joining it throughout the year.

Lowenstein has added to its team recently from diverse geographic regions and practice areas, including new partners in Emerging Companies & Venture Capital, Abraham Kwon on the East Coast and John Wayne Horton in Palo Alto, California; Bankruptcy & Restructuring Department partners in New York City, Daniel Besikof, David Posner and Gianfranco Finizio; a new chair of Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity in Washington, D.C., Amy Mushahwar; and a new Environmental partner in New Jersey, Kegan Brown.

Gould’s practice focuses on white collar criminal defense, government investigations and complex commercial litigation, with a particular focus on representing individuals and organizations in the health care, life sciences and pharmaceutical industries.

Gould served as chief of the Healthcare Fraud Unit at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, as well as acting chief of its Violent Crimes Unit. Throughout his career, he prosecuted and supervised some of the largest and most complex health care cases in the country, largely involving health care fraud, violations of the Anti-Kickback statute, opioid enforcement and violations of the False Claims Act.

Before his government work, for over seven years, Gould was a litigator at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP, where he represented companies and individuals in white collar criminal defense cases, complex commercial litigations, arbitrations and appeals, including trials for pharmaceutical companies in federal court.

Posner is a leader in the investment management community. She has extensive experience in all of the legal, regulatory, operational, compliance and other requirements, and best practices for fund managers, including in fund formation and structuring, Investment Advisers Act regulatory and compliance matters, SEC reporting and a wide variety of other matters critical to the success of fund managers and their products.

Posner joins several recent additions of former fund GC/CCOs to Lowenstein’s Investment Management Group, including Jonathan Danziger, Robert Johnston and Kevin Zadourian.
