The College of New Jersey was named the No. 1 regional university for the North, according to the prestigious U.S. News and World Report rankings, which were released Tuesday morning.
The rankings, considered the gold standard in an industry that now has numerous lists, were released Tuesday morning. They come with a differentiation between national and regional universities. (See complete list here.)
Among other distinctions, according to U.S. News, national universities offer more doctoral programs.
U.S. News ranks regional schools in four geographic areas.
The College of New Jersey always has fared extremely well in its regional university grouping. In fact, it has been the top public school in the group since 1991. This is the first year it has jumped to the top of the list.
Suzanne McCotter, the interim provost and vice president of academic affairs at TCNJ, said the school appreciated the recognition – and, more so, the impact the school has on its students.
“We pride ourselves on delivering an exceptionally high-quality education,” she said. “Our retention rate speaks to our supportive campus community, and our graduate rates help keep the cost of earning a degree more affordable for families.”
Other New Jersey schools fared well in the regional ranking, with nine others making the Top 100:
· Monmouth: Tied for No. 15;
