Private sector employment increased in September, and job creation showed a widespread rebound after a five-month slowdown.
Employment rose by 143,000 jobs in September and annual pay was up 4.7 percent year-over-year, according to the most recent ADP National Employment Report, released Wednesday.
“Stronger hiring didn’t require stronger pay growth last month,” Nela Richardson, chief economist, ADP, said. “Typically, workers who change jobs see faster pay growth. But their premium over job-stayers shrank to 1.9 percent, matching a low we last saw in January.”
Jobs surfaced in all sectors, except for information, which lost 10,000 positions. Manufacturing added jobs for the first time since April.
When looking at where the jobs surfaced, the service-providing sector saw the biggest increases: Trade/transportation/utilities added 14,000 spots; Financial activities increased by 2,000 jobs; Professional/business services added 20,000 positions; Education/health services went up 24,000 places; Leisure/hospitality saw 34,000 more positions and Other services added 17,000 employees.
Large sized establishments, those with 500+ employees, experienced the largest bump in additions, with 86,000 jobs added.
