John Overdeck is a former child prodigy in math, a graduate of Stanford University, the co-founder (and now co-chairman) of Two Sigma Investments (a hedge fund), the chair of Princeton’s Institute for Advanced Study and a resident of Millburn.
That last fact is the most important. At least for what comes next: According to Forbes, Overdeck is the richest resident of New Jersey.
Forbes estimates that Overdeck is worth $7.4 billion – that’s up from $7.3 billion a year ago and good for No. 160 on the Forbes list of 400 Billionaires, which was released Monday.
And even though Overdeck dropped from the No. 137 spot he held last year, he didn’t fall as much as Rocco Commisso, the Saddle River resident who fell from $8 billion to $6.4 billion – and from No. 114 to No. 200. (Let’s hope he can still make the mortgage.)
Commisso, the founder and CEO of cable company Mediacom, has long been ranked No. 1 in the state.
Two other New Jersey residents made the Top 400.
- Peter Kellogg, who came in at No. 288 with a net worth of $4.6 billion, up from $3.8 billion a year ago;
- Peter Cancro, the founder and owner of Jersey Mike’s Subs, who made the list for the first time with $5.6 billion, good for No. 237.
Because you’re wondering, Elon Musk ($244 billion) is considered the richest man in the country, followed by Princeton grad Jeff Bezos ($197 billion) and Mark Zuckerberg ($181 billion).
A few things worth noting:
Richest women: Alice Walton is again the richest woman. The Walmart heir comes in at $89.2 billion, good for No. 15 overall. Diane Hendricks (cofounder, ABC Supply) is the wealthiest self-made woman at $21.9 billion
Donald Trump: He’s back on the list at $4.2 billion (good for No. 319).
Total net worth: The Forbes 400 are worth a collective $5.4 trillion, by far the most ever. It now takes a record $3.3 billion to make the list, up from $2.9 billion in 2023.
That’s why … For the first time, there are more billionaires not one the list (415) than on it. That list includes Bruce Springsteen at $1.1 billion and Taylor Swift at $1.3 billion.
