The Cathedral of the Air in Manchester Township is a 20th century Norman-Gothic style military chapel that is intended to serve the military personnel serving at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
The chapel features an incredible display of 18 stained-glass windows, which depict the human history of flight – and memorialize the loss of naval airships USS Akron and USS Shenandoah, both of which had been based at the nearby Lakehurst Naval Air Station.
The windows were created by the Willet Studios in Philadelphia.
Originally used primarily as a Roman Catholic church, it no longer holds regular services and is used as a non-denominational location for weddings, baptisms and funerals.

The chaplains – one Catholic, one Jewish and two Protestants – gave up their life vests, and subsequently their lives, to save others as their torpedoed ship sank in the North Atlantic in February, 1943. – Photo by Susan Moriarity, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst The most impressive feature of the Cathedral of the Air in Manchester Township is its display of 18 stain glass windows which collectively depict the human history of flight.
