Camden-based American Water, the largest water and wastewater utility company in the country, announced that it was the victim of a cyberattack – but that the attack has not had an impact on water service.
The company said it became aware of the unauthorized activity last week and immediately took protective steps, including shutting down certain systems.
The attack led to a pause in billing, but American Water officials said they did feel its operations were impacted.
The company, which provides service to more than 14 million people in 14 states, said it has notified law enforcement officials.
