Highly regarded Barrett named chief clinical officer for heart and vascular services at RWJBH

Dr. Conor Barrett has been named chief clinical officer for heart and vascular services at RWJBarnabas Health, the system announced this week.

In this role, Barrett will help guide the growth and expansion of this key service line at facilities throughout the system. His focus will be on support and optimization of patient-care delivery to those already within RWJBarnabas Health, as well as growing the opportunities for others to access the health system’s Heart and Vascular excellence.

RWJBH Executive Vice President Michael Prilutsky applauded the announcement.

“Dr. Barrett’s combination of leadership and hands-on experience as a trained cardiac specialist make him the ideal choice to lead our Heart and Vascular service line,” he said. “Under his leadership, RWJBarnabas will continue to expand and enhance cardiac and vascular care across the region as a national leader.”

Barrett was most recently at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he served as associate chief for cardiology, director of clinical operations and strategy, and physician director of network development and integration for the facility’s heart center.

“I am thrilled to join the team at RWJBarnabas Health, a regional and national leader in complex cardiac and vascular care,” he said. “I look forward to working with our expert clinicians and team members, as well as our facility and system leadership, to further enhance our delivery of world-class heart and vascular services.”

After earning his medical degree and completing medical and cardiology fellowship training in his native Ireland, Barrett completed an advanced fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology at Cleveland Clinic. He was later recruited to Massachusetts General Hospital in 2008 and joined Mount Sinai Health System in New York City in 2013.

As a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist, Barrett specializes in diagnosing and treating heart rhythm disorders. As well as having participated in numerous clinical trials and having performed extensive research on the treatment of complex arrhythmias, he has also focused on executing strategic cardiovascular transformation initiatives.
