New Jersey State Board of Education member and education advocate Andy Mulvihill recently was elected board chair of the New Jersey Policy Institute.
NJPI seeks to bring together policymakers, business leaders, non-profits, lawmakers, elected officials, grassroots advocates and others to focus on meaningful policy solutions regarding the major issues facing Garden State families — including education, the economy and energy.
NJ Policy Institute President and Founder Rosemary Becchi applauded the announcement.
“Andy Mulvihill is a tremendous advocate for New Jersey schools, parents, and children,” she said. “As a member of the New Jersey State Board of Education for 12 years and Vice President for six of those years, he always acted and voted in the best interests of our students.
“We’re thrilled he will be serving as NJPI’s Board Chair, as we look to tackle important long-standing New Jersey policy issues, including improving our schools.”
According to NJPI, the organization’s initial focus will be on the following three issue areas:
Education: Excellence, opportunity and options;
Economy: Community, economic and workforce development, taxation, accessible housing;
Energy: Supply, affordability and reliability.
Mulvihill said he is eager to get started.
“I’m excited to serve as Board Chair for NJPI, because I know firsthand that our state can do better, particularly in the field of education,” he said. “Every child deserves an equal opportunity at an excellent occasion that isn’t defined by their zip code.
“Rather than being a think tank, NJPI plans to be a ‘do’ tank — driving policy changes through collaboration with government officials, community members, and legislators on both sides of the aisle. Working together, I strongly believe we can provide bipartisan solutions to complicated issues, ensuring a bright and prosperous future for the next generation of New Jerseyans.”
