Seacrest Rehab & Healthcare launches new orthopedic recovery program in Little Egg Harbor

Seacrest Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center has introduced OrthoWIN, a highly specialized subacute care program for orthopedic recovery. Dr. Chi M. Wu, a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) specialist, is directing the initiative with Drs. Gabriel Catalina and Eric Driscoll, with the support of an interdisciplinary care team at the Little Egg Harbor skilled nursing facility.

OrthoWIN was developed by Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports Seacrest. The PM&R-centered care model caters to patients recovering from a range of orthopedic surgeries and injuries; it is ideal for patients with co-morbidities and those without the social support to recover at home independently. PM&R, also known as Physiatry, focuses on the restoration of health and function with an integrated treatment plan including pain management and physical therapy.

“OrthoWIN responds to a direct call from healthcare systems for this type of skilled nursing specialization,” Marquis’ Kate Bauer, regional director of market development, said. “Seacrest’s goal is to help its area hospital partners address the growing volume of joint replacement care and fracture care patients who are unable to transition directly home following a surgery or injury.”

The OrthoWIN platform features a guided PM&R plan, seven-days-per-week therapy services as warranted, coordination with a patient’s surgical team on preferences, and wound care management.

Under the leadership of Wu, Catalina and Driscoll, OrthoWIN’s “whole body” approach offers customized support to manage complex cases and co-morbidities; it can integrate seamlessly with Seacrest’s physician-led Cardiac Care and Pulmonary Care programs, for example. OrthoWIN also includes patient and caregiver education, as well as a virtual or in-person home evaluation prior to discharge.

Board certified in PM&R, Wu has more than 30 years of medical experience in acute and subacute rehabilitation hospitals and facilities. Catalina and Driscoll serve as co-directors of Seacrest’s Post-Acute Care Transitions/Orthopedic Program; both possess more than two decades of medical experience. In addition, they are the co-directors of the Center for Perioperative Medicine at AtlantiCare.

“Seacrest is fortunate to have Dr. Wu, Dr. Catalina and Dr. Driscoll lead this new initiative, supported by a dedicated team of talented specialists,” Bauer said. “With OrthoWIN, Seacrest is well-positioned to bridge the gap between hospital and home.”
