South Jersey Chamber, Rowan College launch EmpowerU: A modern workforce certificate program

Six-week courses, exclusive to members, to specialize in soft skills: teamwork, productivity, communication and others

The Chamber of Commerce of South Jersey announced Thursday night that it is partners with Rowan College of South Jersey to launch Empower U – a certificate program offering skills for the modern workforce.

CCSNJ CEO Christina Renna said the six-week professional development training program will be exclusive to CCSNJ members and their employees – and offer a wide range of topics designed to help company’s new and existing workforce achieve their goals.

The courses will focus on soft skills development, including teamwork, productivity and communication skills to name a few, Renna said.

The cost for chamber members is $150 per employee. And each employee will receive a RCSJ certificate upon completion.

The program is just one that CCSNJ has with Rowan College.

CCSNJ members and their employees are eligible for a 33 percent discount on tuition & per-credit fees in the fall and spring semesters at RCSJ.

The EmpowerU initiative is just the latest membership resource the chamber added in 2024.

Led by CCSNJ EVP Meredith Lorrilliere, the chamber also launched:

  • The Advocate, a digital magazine that is a collaboration between Townsquare Publications and the Chamber;
  • A discount digital marketplace, which offers all members, large and small, access to a discount platform often offered only by large employers.
  • A Day of Service initiative which encourages members to volunteer at a variety of nonprofit organizations across the entire South Jersey region for a day. It took place twice this year.

The announcement of Empower U was made during the chamber’s annual meeting, during which it was announced that Robin Walton had been elected its new chair. (see story here)
