The New Jersey Department of State, the Confederation of Indian Industry and Rowan University signed a memorandum of understanding in an effort to create a strong link between the global technology centers of India and New Jersey in an effort to advance research and development.
The agreement, signed by Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way in Delhi, came during the inaugural economic mission of the N.J.-India Commission, in conjunction with Choose New Jersey.
Way said the agreement represents the state’s new slogan – New Jersey is the World’s State – which promotes N.J. as a global hub that draws immigrants and international businesses from around the world.
India is one of the state’s top connections, Way said.
“We have a longstanding and continuously growing partnership with India, and this MOU further solidifies our connection to its booming technology industry,” she said. “We look forward to creating new opportunities together, driving innovation, and fostering growth for both regions. The collaboration between the Confederation of Indian Industry and Rowan University allows for advancements in research and development to benefit our respective residents.”
New Jersey shares deep cultural and educational ties with India, and this agreement will further strengthen these bonds by fostering collaboration in research and technological development. The MOU will also lay the foundation for expanded partnerships in the technology sector.
Wes Mathews, the CEO of Choose New Jersey and chair of the New Jersey-India Commission, said the agreement is a testament to New Jersey’s commitment to being a global leader in technology and innovation.
“Our partnership will help elevate the work of talented researchers and business leaders in both New Jersey and India, driving breakthroughs in technology that can shape the future for generations to come,” he said.
New Jersey is home to more than 10,000 technology companies and boasts the highest concentration of scientists and engineers nationwide. Institutions like Rowan University play a pivotal role in this innovation ecosystem, cultivating top-tier talent and driving advancements in fields such as engineering, cybersecurity, and health sciences through cutting-edge research and global partnerships.
“This partnership represents a significant step forward in strengthening the ties between India and New Jersey, particularly in the rapidly evolving field of technology,” Rikant Pittie, vice chair, CII Delhi State, said. “Collaborations like these are vital to fostering innovation, driving economic growth, and providing a global platform for the exchange of ideas and expertise. We look forward to working closely with Rowan University to foster a deeper connection between industry and academia.”
Rowan President Ali Houshmand said the school is committed to advancing innovation through impactful research and global partnerships.
