Fennessy leaving Mercury for government affairs role at Rocket Companies

Conor Fennessy, a highly regarded government affairs leader in the state, has been named the director of state government and external affairs for Eastern U.S. at Rocket Companies, the parent company of Rocket Mortgage.

Fennessy, who will be based in New Jersey, will begin the role Jan. 6.

Fennessy has spent the past 10 years at Mercury Public Affairs in various roles, including managing director.

In his new role, Fennessy will coordinate state legislative and regulatory affairs, industry trade associations, and external stakeholder relationships for the Rocket Family of Companies.

Fennessy is well known in political circles.

Prior to working at Mercury, he served as the vice president of government affairs for the N.J. Apartment Association for 11 years.

Prior to that, he held numerous roles in Trenton in 1997-2002, serving as the political director for the N.J. Republican State Committee and the deputy communications director for Gov. Donald DiFrancesco, as well as working in the majority offices in both the State Senate and General Assembly.

Fennessy started his career working as a legislative assistant in the U.S. House in 1994-96.

He is a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, where he played both ice hockey and lacrosse.
