Marie Mathews has been appointed as the new managing member of CSG Law, succeeding Pat Costello as the head of the Roseland-based firm, one of the state’s largest.

The appointment was effective Jan. 1.

As managing member, Mathews will oversee the firm’s 200 attorneys and 150 other professionals who are assigned to the firm’s headquarters office in Roseland and its rapidly growing location in mid-town Manhattan.

Mathews has previously served in a variety of management roles at the firm, including as practice group leader of the litigation group and deputy general counsel to the firm, while also representing a wide array of clients in complex commercial litigation matters throughout the region.

Mathews said she welcomes the opportunity.

“I am looking forward to leading the firm through the exciting new opportunities on the horizon, as we continue to grow and build upon our past successes,” she said.

Jeff Chiesa and Frank Giantomasi, co-chairs of the executive committee and name members of the firm, applauded the announcement.

“I have worked closely with Marie over the years, witnessing first-hand her ability to build consensus, analyze issues and lead effectively,” Chiesa said. “We look forward to her leadership as we continue to build and grow the firm.”

Giantomasi gave praise to Mathews and Costello, who had serve in the role since 2022.

“The executive committee is immensely thankful to Pat for her wisdom and the steadiness of her leadership through the past three years,” Giantomasi said. “We continue to look to the future and believe Marie will be an excellent leader to help continue our growth trajectory.”

During her tenure as managing member, Costello led the firm through a variety of milestones – the return to office following the COVID pandemic, the transition to its new headquarters at 105 Eisenhower Parkway in Roseland, the modernization of many of the firm’s practices and policies and continued smart growth in both revenue and headcount. Costello will continue her leadership role in the firm by serving on the executive committee.

“Serving as managing member of the firm at this pivotal time in its history has been a tremendous honor,” she said. “CSG is a special place, and I look forward to contributing to its vision by serving on the executive committee.”
