Hudson Regional Hospital’s cardiac Cath lab receives State Certification

Hudson Regional Hospital’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab has earned NJ State Department of Health approval for STEMI (ST-segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction)—a diagnostic tool used to identify and treat patients with chest pains—allowing its practitioners to treat heart attack patients as soon as they get to the facility.

This low-risk angioplasty is used to widen a clogged artery and then insert a tiny balloon on a narrow tube, called a catheter to improve blood flow to the heart. Previously, Hudson Regional was required to divert patients to facilities approved to provide the treatment.

“This procedure can treat heart attack patients immediately and on-site during those critical moments directly after we recognize that there is a life-threatening blockage,” Dr. Anuj Shah, director of Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Hudson Regional Hospital said. “Patients can now receive care from the same set of doctors throughout their treatment all in the same facility.”

“We have already performed more than 600 procedures at our Cath Lab since opening in June of 2023,” Dr. Nizar Kifaieh, president & CEO of Hudson Regional Hospital said. “Our community in Secaucus and Hudson County lets us treat our patients with best advancements and developments available in the medical field.”
