Boone is entering his eighth year as manager of the Yankees. Last year, he led the team to its first World Series appearance since 2009, though they lost the series in five games to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Yankee manager played in the Major Leagues from 1997 through 2009 mostly as a third baseman. He played for the Yankees in 2003-04 and hit one of the team’s most storied home runs – a walk-off 11th-inning blast in the decisive game of the 2003 American League Championship Series against the Boston Red Sox, propelling the Yankees to the World Series.
Boone comes from a baseball family. His grandfather, Ray Boone, was a major league infielder from 1948 to 1960, and his father, Bob Boone, was a major league catcher for 19 years, four of them as an All-Star. His brother Bret Boone played 14 years and was a three-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger Award winner.
