Mo Butler, the highly respected public affairs expert with extensive experience in government relations, political campaigns, and strategic communications in New Jersey and Washington, D.C., has been appointed to the board of directors of Lyndhurst-based NRS, one of the nation’s largest logistics companies.
Butler, a partner at Mercury Public Affairs, advises clients across various sectors, including government, real estate development, education, health care, infrastructure and non-profits.
Prior to joining Mercury, Butler served as chief of staff to U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ). In that capacity, Butler was responsible for overseeing Booker’s state operations while advising him on national and state affairs. Under Butler’s leadership, the senate office helped jumpstart the Gateway Project.
“We are delighted to have Mo join our team,” NRS CEO Francis Walsh said. “In the six decades since NRS was founded with one truck serving customers in Jersey City, we have remained a proud family-owned business focused on delivering supply chain solutions to our customers.
“Mo’s knowledge of our industry and familiarity with our clients makes him a valuable addition to the NRS family.”
NRS is focused on creating a culture that empowers the individual and offers our associates the opportunity to apply their unique skills to the challenges facing our clients, according to Walsh.
Butler said he is eager to offer his insights.
“I am honored to be a part of NRS,” he said. “Under Francis’ leadership, the NRS commitment to innovative spirit has created a common mission to push boundaries in the logistics industry and established the company as the most dynamic in the United States solving supply chain issues and delivering exceptional service.”
Prior to serving on the U.S. Senate staff, Butler was chief of staff in Newark to then Mayor Booker. In that role Butler was responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the City of Newark while managing a workforce of 3,000 public employees.
Butler received his BA from Franklin and Marshall College and Master’s degree from the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University, where he is currently a visiting associate.
In 2021, Butler was appointed Chairman of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority by Gov. Phil Murphy. Butler also serves as a Trustee of his Alma Mater Franklin & Marshall College and sits on the board of New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
