Morristown business administrator elected NJ Municipal Management Association president

With over 25 years of public sector leadership experience in municipalities around New Jersey and the country, Jillian Barrick, the business administrator of Morristown was elected president of the New Jersey Municipal Management Association (NJMMA).

NJMMA is an inter-municipal organization committed to enhancing municipal ethics, fostering public awareness of local government, and promoting professionalism and innovation in local governments across New Jersey.

“My first goal is to ensure that our organization continues to provide value to every member by supporting you as a professional in ways that are meaningful in every phase of your career and in every type of community. We will provide quality educational opportunities that will help us do our jobs better, cultivate a robust set of resources to broaden our library of knowledge, and actively engage our network of fellow Administrators, both active and retired, so that no one ever feels alone,” Barrick said.

During her tenure in local government, Barrick gained particular expertise in budget and operational management as well as in planning and redevelopment.

Immediately prior to joining the Town of Morristown as Business Administrator in 2015, Barrick held similar positions in the City of Perth Amboy in Middlesex County and for the City of East Orange in Essex County. Before rejoining the City of East Orange in 2010, she was a senior managing consultant at Public Financial Management providing financial and operational consulting to municipalities, school districts, and other public entities across the country with a focus on distressed governments. Barrick also currently serves on the New Jersey League of Municipalities’ Legislative Committee.

Barrick found her professional calling in serving her community through local government, specifically as a public administrator. She believes “every person in every community deserves municipal services that are not only cost-effective but are of high quality, and that only comes through well-trained, passionate professionals at the helm who can balance the needs of all stakeholders.”
