How does a Caribbean Island with natural hot springs sound? United begins flights to Dominica Saturday

How does a trip to a mountainous Caribbean Island nation with natural hot springs and tropical rainforests sound?

Starting Saturday – when United Airlines makes its inaugural flight from Newark Liberty Airport to Dominica – it will be.

United flight 2849 is set to depart at 9:10 a.m. – taking a Boeing 737-700.

On board will be a native of Dominica: First Officer Peter Codrington, a Dominica native who dreamed of being a pilot since he was a young child, will fly a commercial plane to his home country.

Dominica is an island country in the Caribbean that is part of the Windward Island chain in the Lesser Antilles archipelago. It has a population of just over 70,000.

Its capital, Roseau, is located on the western side of the island. Dominica’s closest neighbors are two Guadeloupe and Martinique.

Dominica has been nicknamed the “Nature Island of the Caribbean” for its natural environment. It is the youngest island in the Lesser Antilles, and is still being formed by geothermal-volcanic activity.
