Have a uniquely cool product that was invented in N.J.? Then you want to enter this contest

MEP and BIA are once again teaming on their Makers Madness – The Coolest Thing Made in New Jersey competition

The lightbulb … the transistor … the record-player … the bar code — even the golf tee.

We could go on and on about the coolest inventions created in New Jersey. After all, our history tops that of any other state — and likely any other country.

So, what’s new?

Glad you asked.

We’re going to find out.

Manufacturing Counts, a partnership between the N.J. Business & Industry Association and the N.J. Manufacturing Extension Program to promote awareness of New Jersey manufacturing, has launched a competition to find the best products made in the state: Makers Madness – The Coolest Thing Made in New Jersey.

Any product made in the Garden State may be nominated – but you have to do so by March 14.

Here are the rules. And here are the ways to nominate a product.

Peter Connolly, the CEO of MEP, hopes you will.

“The Makers Madness initiative is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the incredible innovation and craftsmanship found within New Jersey’s manufacturing sector,” he said. “Through this competition, we shine a spotlight on the products that not only define the ingenuity of our state but also reinforce why New Jersey is a leader in manufacturing. NJMEP is proud to collaborate with NJBIA on this exciting effort, celebrating the makers who drive our economy forward and inspire the next generation of manufacturers.”

NJBIA CEO Michele Siekerka, a long supporter of the sector, is all-in, too.

“We’re extremely prideful of the many manufacturers in New Jersey who create products that benefit our way of life in many ways here and all around the world,” she said.

“Our Makers Madness contest will bring more well-deserved attention to these companies, their creations and New Jersey as a manufacturing state. We can’t wait to see all the nominations and we are thrilled to partner with NJMEP on this mission.”

Initial voting by the public on all eligible products will take place from March 18-24, which the leading vote-getters establishing the Top 16 Makers Madness bracket.

Voting for Makers Madness rounds will take place as followed:

  • Top 16 Round: March 26 – 31
  • Top 8 Round: April 2 – 7
  • Top 4 Round: April 9 – 14

The winner will be announced at the State of the State of Manufacturing event in Trenton on May 21.
