Eisai to Lay Off 57 Employees at Nutley Headquarters

Japanese pharmaceutical company Eisai is cutting 121 jobs across its U.S. operations, including 57 at its American headquarters in Nutley. The layoffs, effective between March 31 and May 30, are part of a strategic restructuring aimed at improving operations and long-term sustainability.

While Eisai remains committed to the U.S. market, according to a spokesman, the cuts primarily impact its commercial, medical, and corporate functions. The news follows the FDA’s recent approval of a new dosing regimen for Leqembi, Eisai and Biogen’s Alzheimer’s drug, which has faced slow sales and regulatory challenges.

Eisai also has U.S. locations in Baltimore, Exton, Pennsylvania, and Raleigh, North Carolina, but has not specified additional layoff sites.
