Jersey Shore iconic Whitebrier to be sold for undisclosed amount

The historic Whitebrier bar and restaurant in Avalon, New Jersey, is set for a new chapter as the Union League of Philadelphia has reached an agreement to purchase the beloved Shore establishment. Known for its lively atmosphere and prime location, the Whitebrier has been a staple in Avalon’s dining and nightlife scene for years.

As part of the transition, the Union League plans to make “thoughtful cosmetic enhancements” while preserving the Whitebrier’s character. The goal is to reopen in time for the summer season, ensuring a seamless continuation of its role as a premier destination at the Jersey Shore.

The exact sale price for the Whitebrier bar and restaurant has not been publicly disclosed. However, in late 2022, the Whitebrier and the adjacent Princeton bar were jointly listed for sale, encompassing a full square block of real estate. These establishments collectively generated more than $10 million in annual revenue from bar and restaurant sales.

Current owner Anthony Zurawski confirmed the sale, thanking the Whitebrier’s staff, patrons, and entertainers for their dedication over the years. He called the purchase “an incredible opportunity for [the Union League] and the people of Avalon,” according to a report.

This acquisition marks the latest addition to the Union League’s growing presence at the Shore, joining The Bungalow in Stone Harbor and the Union League National Golf Club in Cape May Court House. The Whitebrier’s inclusion further cements its status as a top-tier gathering place for members, their families, and guests.

With a rich history dating back to 1862, the Union League of Philadelphia has been recognized as one of the nation’s premier city clubs. Its investment in the Whitebrier ensures that the iconic Avalon venue will continue to thrive for years to come.
