Gloucester County Library System receives $3M grant for new Clayton Library

The Gloucester County Library System (GCLS) has been awarded a $3 million grant from the New Jersey State Library’s Capital Projects Fund: Community Center Digital Connect program to build a brand-new library at 730 N. Delsea Drive, Clayton.

The funding will enable GCLS to offer expanded access to essential services, resources, and programs for the Clayton community.

“The Gloucester County Board of Commissioners is dedicated to enhancing our communities by providing access to top-tier educational and technological resources,” said Commissioner Director Frank J. DiMarco. “This new library will serve as a hub for learning, community engagement, and growth.”

The new library will feature a variety of amenities, including adult and children’s programming, meeting spaces, public computers, patron parking, and an inviting children’s area.

Commissioner Liaison Joann Gattinelli added, “This project demonstrates our ongoing support for literacy, lifelong learning, and fostering a sense of community. We are eager to see this vision come to life.”

“This grant marks a significant milestone in our mission to provide equitable access to information, technology, and educational opportunities,” said GCLS Director Carolyn Oldt. “The new Clayton library will be a modern, state-of-the-art space for education and innovation, strengthening community connections.”

GCLS recognizes the vital role of the Gloucester County Board of Commissioners, the Gloucester County Library Commission, and the Borough of Clayton in bringing this project to fruition. The new library is expected to open by May 2026, with progress updates available to the public during construction.
