Trump administration extends deadline for NYC congestion toll compliance

The Trump administration has extended a Friday deadline for New York to halt its new $9 congestion toll for most drivers entering Manhattan. The deadline, originally set to take effect on March 22, has now been pushed back by 30 days, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced Thursday.

Duffy said the extension allows “discussions to continue,” but he also criticized New York officials, who have refused to comply and have instead filed a lawsuit.

The congestion fee, which took effect on Jan. 5, is in addition to existing tolls for bridges and tunnels leading into Manhattan.
