Susan Hardwick, president and CEO of American Water Works Co. Inc., is at the helm of the nation’s largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility, which serves 14 million people across 24 states. Since stepping into the role in 2022, Hardwick has led the company through strategic growth initiatives, including key acquisitions such as the York, Pa., wastewater system, one of its largest to date. Hardwick joined American Water in 2019 as chief financial officer, bringing with her extensive experience in financial leadership. Prior to that, she served as executive vice president and CFO at Vectren Corp. She continues to drive American Water’s mission of providing sustainable and reliable water services while expanding its reach in the utility sector.
