Parsippany’s Acrow uses modular steel bridge, reconnects rural community

Acrow, a global bridge engineering and supply firm based in Parsippany, recently provided a modular steel bridge to restore access in rural Cibola County, N.M., after severe rainfall destroyed a key structure on County Road 5 in the village of Moquino.

The region had been in a prolonged drought when heavy rains overwhelmed drainage systems and collapsed a concrete culvert bridge over Seboyeta Creek. The bridge served as the only reliable access point for the small community, making restoration critical for residents, school transportation and emergency services.

After being contacted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Acrow deployed a team to assess the site and offered its modular 700XS® bridge as a cost-effective permanent replacement.

The 80-foot-long structure with a 30-foot-wide roadway was designed to AASHTO HL-93 loading standards. It includes an epoxy-aggregate anti-skid deck and a TL-4 guardrail system. Components arrived in late October 2024, and the bridge was assembled and launched into place by Compass Engineering & Construction Services, LLC within a week.

“Acrow’s modular bridges enable the restoration of critical infrastructure quickly, safely and efficiently, especially as climate-related events become more frequent,” said Dan Schrager, business development manager for Acrow’s Southwest region.

Unlike traditional bridge construction, Acrow’s modular solutions are designed for rapid deployment and minimal heavy equipment requirements. All components are hot-dip galvanized for durability and corrosion resistance, offering a long service life with minimal maintenance.

“When tasked with using public funds most effectively, project owners and contractors often turn to Acrow,” said Eugene Sobecki, director of national sales and military business development. “Compared with more traditional construction methods, our bridging solutions offer cost efficiencies without compromising on quality or safety.”

The bridge is now open to traffic following final inspections and the completion of approach work.
