Jersey City Council approves expanding boundaries of Exchange Place Alliance SID

Alliance Pledges to Continue Strong Record of Capital Improvements

The Jersey City Council has approved an ordinance to expand the Exchange Place Alliance Special Improvement District (SID) boundaries. The Alliance’s new boundaries will include the area bordered on the west by Marin Boulevard, to the north by 2nd Street, to the east by Warren Street, and to the south by Christopher Columbus Drive.

The Alliance has invested significantly in numerous projects and organizations intended to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors to the district, while at the same time supporting businesses who call the neighborhood home. The Alliance focuses on cleaning, enhancing landscapes, removing snow, and conducting regular maintenance and repairs to ensure the district remains attractive and functional.

“I support this proactive decision by the Alliance to help support the businesses and residents in communities adjacent to Exchange Place,” said Council President Joyce Watterman, who is an Alliance board member.

Over the past three years, the Alliance has revitalized Exchange Place Plaza, turning it into a vibrant waterfront destination. They’ve created an Art Walk along the Hudson River Walkway, planted more trees around Exchange Place than any other neighborhood in Jersey City has seen and hosted concerts and arts events that bring the community together. Looking ahead, they plan to add a community center, more playgrounds, dog parks and community gardens to make downtown even more vibrant and welcoming.

“We are excited to extend our capital improvement program beyond Exchange Place into neighboring communities to create similar vibrancy and a sense of place,” said Deidre Crockett, the Alliance Executive Director.  “We thank the Councilmembers share our vision for the area to benefit all Jersey City residents.”

Throughout its boundaries, the Alliance will bring enhanced landscaping, clean streets, public safety improvements, community events, business support resulting in a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant neighborhood with stronger community engagement and increased property and business value.
